The composition

What it is
made of.

Cendre is the ash left in the grate: not the fire itself, but the warmth that remains in the stone an hour later. It opens with black pepper and clove bud, dry and almost medicinal.

The heart is guaiac wood and a thread of birch tar. The base is smoked vetiver with an oud accord, kept low so the smoke never turns sweet.
