Your first five automations: start with the boring ones

The best first automations remove small, repeated chores. They are easy to check, easy to trust, and they free up attention immediately.

Ambitious automations are tempting, but the ones teams keep are usually modest: create the same tasks every time, notify the same people, set the same dates.

Five good places to start

Create an onboarding checklist when a deal is won. Assign an owner to new inbound accounts by region. Remind the owner when an account has had no activity for thirty days.
Post a short summary to the team channel when a large deal changes stage. Create a renewal review task ninety days before each renewal date.
If you can describe it in one sentence starting with ‘when’, it is a good candidate.

Keep them visible

Name each automation after what it does, not how it works. Log every run on the records it touches so people understand why a task or message appeared.
Review automations quarterly. Turn off the ones nobody would miss, and refine the ones people rely on.

Start with one team and one workflow. Most teams import their records and run their first automation in an afternoon.
